Catalyst Youth Ministry

Catalyst Youth Ministry is the banner under which we reach out to young people in various different ways. From regular groups to our Young Leaders Programme to work in Schools – we love being with young people and encountering Christ together with them!

  • Online Community for Prayerful Scripture Reflection. (3/22/2020) - An online Community for Prayerful Scripture Reflection. During this time, when many of our usual ways of expressing our Faith have been removed, and we can no longer gather together due to the Coronavirus, it is all the more important that we find ways to invest in our relationships with God and each other. Here is one small way that we can communicate our faith and support each other whilst encouraging daily prayer with a Scriptural focus. It is also a great way for people who are usually involved with Metanoia Project groups and events to keep in touch and continue to feel part of the Metanoia family as well as the wider Church community. God wants to speak to us all and has given us His Word as a constant source of life and relationship with Him. The aim of this group is to encourage each other to spend time each day praying with Scripture and allowing God to speak to us. Please then share your thoughts, questions and reflections to help us all hear from our Loving Father. Metanoia Project 'The God Who Speaks' Scripture Reflection Group
  • Metanoia Project Operations and the Coronavirus. (3/19/2020) - Dear Young People, Parents, Friends and Supporters, Because of recent guidance from both the Government and the Bishops’ Conference, and in consultation with the schools and Parishes with which we work, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all of our groups and events except our work with the Homeless. Therefore, there will be no youth groups at St Clare’s or St Mary’s Lea Town, no talks for adults at St Wilfrid’s, no meetings for our Young Leaders or for the Students and Young Adults, no sessions for Young Families, no Adoration with Praise and Worship etc. until further notice. During this time, when many of our usual ways of expressing our Faith have been removed, and we can no longer gather together, it is all the more important that we find ways to invest in our relationships with God and each other. Although our regular groups and events will not be able to continue for the foreseeable future, the Metanoia Project Team will continue to be here to support you in any way we can and we will be finding different avenues to build and maintain community in ways that do not require physical contact. We will also continue to offer spiritual input, scripture reflection and prayer resources through various means so look out for ways to stay involved and nourish your Faith! You can let us know what sort of thing you would / would not like to hear about by filling in our ‘contact preferences’ form here: http://metanoiaproject.co.uk/contact-preferences/ If you are fit and well and do not support any vulnerable people in your work or household, why not consider helping us serve the homeless at our Wednesday Drop-in? Our usual team of volunteers is somewhat depleted due to the need to self-isolate so any help will be gratefully received. We will miss meeting with you all but hope that we will be able to see you all again in the not-too-distant future. In the meantime, look after yourselves, keep praying and keep in touch! God bless Ruth and Joe
  • Car Wash Fundraiser (10/12/2018) - Just finished washing cars with some of our Anointed youth group. We are raising money to help fund our retreat to Castlerigg Manor. Any donations gratefully received....!
  • Young Adults Meeting: For anyone aged 18-35 (or thereabouts) (9/21/2018) - Young Adults Meeting: For anyone aged 18-35 (or thereabouts) who would like to grow in faith with other young adults.
  • Treasure: A Retreat for all young people of High School age and Above.. (9/18/2018) - This weekend is a great opportunity for our young people to escape from the day-to-day routine of life. Time away gives us a chance to re-evaluate where our lives are going, to reflect and learn about ourselves, each other and about our relationship with God. As well as lots of exciting ways of exploring our theme through games, workshops, group work and prayer we will also enjoy some time outdoors. There will also be plenty of time to relax and socialise.
  • Summer Ball (7/22/2018) - Our wonderful Young Leaders decided that we needed a summer ball so they set about planning and organising an extravaganza with music, food, an impossible quiz (thanks Anto), games, decorations and even
  • End of term celebrations (7/22/2018) - We've had a wonderful year with our Seekers, Anointed and Sent youth groups who continue to astound us with their dedication, eagerness to seek God, love for one another and openness to all Jesus wants to do with them. We've had trips, residential experiences, group work, games and more games, dramas,
  • New Seekers Youth Group starts (7/22/2018) - In May we started a second Seekers group based in a different Parish - St Andrew's in Cottam. It is early days and it has had a bit of a slow start but we are hopeful that when we return in September it will go from strength to strength. We've loved getting to know the new children who attend and look forward to walking with them in the years ahead.
  • Back to School… (7/22/2018) - We had a fantastic time in June with 8 Primary School afternoon visits and a whole day with around 60 Year 3s from the Small Schools Cluster. We explored themes from trusting in God to following Jesus to the Eucharist!
  • Welcome to Nora! (7/22/2018) - There has been so much going on over the past few months that there has been no time to write about any of it!! A huge bit of brilliant news though is that Nora Lord joined our team here in April as Children and Families Coordinator. We are very blessed to have her with us and to receive the benefit of her enthusiasm, joy and hard work. There are already a few new plans in the pipeline and we can't wait to see the impact Nora has on our ministry. Please keep her (and all of us) in your prayers.
  • Seekers Trip (3/15/2018) -  Last night the Seekers Youth Group spent the evening using up huge amounts of energy at Rascals play centre. Having the place to ourselves meant that there was more than enough room on the climbing frames, slides, trampolines, scramble nets etc to keep the young people entertained for a couple of hours only stopping half way through for pizza and chips followed by jelly and ice cream.
  • YOKE Young Leaders Retreat (2/25/2018) - In February Half-Term we took our young leaders away for a retreat full of teaching, prayer, creativity and training. They responded so well with their openness to the Spirit, their love for one another and all their hard work. We stayed with Fr Philip Conner (and of course Bosco the dog) at St Joseph's in Lancaster where we were made to feel really welcome and at home. The church in Preston is blessed to have such a dedicated, talented and holy bunch of young people who are leading the way for others. Here are what a few of them said:
  • Rucksack Delivery (2/25/2018) - Having spent a frantic few weeks fundraising, the staff and pupils at Corpus Christi High School presented us with 20 Rucksacks all full of underwear, socks, sleeping bags, chocolate, t-shirts, shower gel and a New Testament. They also had a few items spare! We were blown away by their efforts and generosity especially in such a short space of time. The people who attend our Wednesday Drop-In were delighted to receive such a useful gift for Christmas and were so touched by the love and care that was demonstrated to them. If you would like to be involved in a similar project in the future then please get in touch.
  • Seekers’ Trip to Energi (12/15/2017) - On Wednesday 29th November 32 young people from the Seekers youth group came with us to Energi Trampoline Park. This group have huge amounts of energy to burn off so this was the ideal place for them! I was very impressed by the skills that many of them had - including even a backward somersault landed perfectly by one of them! I have lots of very blurred photos from trying to capture their fun as they moved way too quickly for my skills...However here are a few that came out okay. It was a great evening with lots of very hot and tired young people at the end!
  • Feast of Christ the King (12/13/2017) - Sunday 26th November was the Feast of Christ the Universal King and each year the Church in England and Wales asks us to celebrate National Youth Sunday on this great feast. So we gathered the young people who attend our groups together at St Clare’s and spent a few hours with around 50 young people […]
  • Advent Rucksack Appeal Assemblies (12/13/2017) - Corpus Christi High School are generously helping us to provide a rucksack full of useful things and a message of love to each person who uses our Wednesday Drop-In over the Christmas period. We went into School on Tuesday 28th and Thursday 30th to address two assemblies about the appeal. We took some time to […]
  • Small Schools Cluster (12/13/2017) - On Wednesday 29th November we worked with around 60 Year 6s from several of the smaller Primary Schools around Preston. The smallest school only had 3 members of Year 6! St Andrew’s Parish, Cottam hosted us all for the day. We explored the Advent theme of staying awake with a particular focus on prayer. We […]
  • Year 10 at Corpus Christi High School (12/3/2017) - On Wednesday 22nd November we spent the day with Year 10 at Corpus Christi High School. The whole school had an extended learning day and the focus for Year 10 was Faith and Justice with a theme of ‘Called’. We led a workshop ‘Called to Relationship’ in which we set up eight interactive prayer stations […]
  • Young Peoples’ Trip to Watch Romero: Heartbeat of El Salvador (12/3/2017) - When Rise Theatre came to town, we made sure that all our young people had the opportunity to watch the play too. Here is what one of them, Ben, had to say about it… A few weeks ago I went to a play performed by Rise Theatre on the life of Oscar Romero. After enjoying […]
  • All Saints Retreat (11/5/2017) - During Half-Term we took a fantastic group of our local young people on a retreat to Coldwell Activity Centre. I’ll leave it up to the young people to tell you all about it but suffice to say God was at work and He is forming His new saints! One of our Young Leaders, Prabhu had […]
  • Young Leaders (9/26/2017) -
  • We had a busy week first back at the Youth Groups! (9/26/2017) - The week started on Sunday evening 10th September with the return of ‘Anointed’. It is always wonderful to catch up with the young people who we haven’t seen over the summer and to capture the excitement they have being together again. Also on Sunday, at the same time, we began a new group for Year […]
  • End of Term Party (7/18/2017) - The Seekers Group all had a wonderful evening of fun and games and lots of food to celebrate all we have been doing together over the past year.
